How to look after your mental health this Easter

Easter is a season for celebration, an opportunity to spend time with loved ones, and a chance for rest and reflection. While it can be a joyful season, it may also come with moments of stress or overwhelm. Whether you're navigating social commitments, feeling the pressure of expectations, or simply seeking some calm, here are a few ways to support your mental health and wellbeing over the Easter period.

Look after yourself first

Socialising over the holiday season is lots of fun, but it can also be tiring. Remember to prioritise time to yourself if you need it, and make sure you stick to a healthy sleep schedule. If social gatherings become overwhelming, give yourself permission to step away and recharge as needed.

Maintain healthy habits

Everyone loves an Easter snack, but remember to keep it balanced by including healthy and nourishing foods in your diet. Fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains will help support your overall wellbeing. Be sure also to keep up a healthy schedule of exercise – whether it’s a walk outside or a trip to the gym, staying active can boost your mood and energy levels.

Stay mindful

Take a moment each day to reflect on the things you're grateful for. Whether it's enjoying a good book, spending time with loved ones, or getting out into nature, cultivating gratitude can improve your mood and foster a sense of contentment.

You may also want to incorporate some mindful breathing exercises into your daily routine. Pause for a few moments to focus on your breath, allowing yourself to connect with the present and cultivate inner calm.

Have fun with others, and ask for help if needed

Cherish the moments spent with loved ones – whether it's sharing a meal, engaging in meaningful conversation, or taking part in Easter traditions. Connecting with others plays a vital role in supporting our mental and emotional wellbeing.

If you're feeling overwhelmed or lonely over the Easter break, don't hesitate to reach out to friends, family members, or mental health professionals for support. You're not alone, and support is available when needed.
