OTEN is especially flexible for people experiencing mental health issues or disability.
Think of a field you’d like to study.
Got it?
Now, what’s standing in your way?
If you work, have others to care for, experience mental health issues, live with a disability or can’t physically attend a TAFE because you’re isolating, OTEN distance education makes it possible to work around your obstacles and get the qualifications you want, by allowing you to study when and where it suits you.
Highly motivated students can achieve their qualifications even faster.
OTEN is the largest provider of distance education and vocational training in Australia, offering 200 TAFE courses that are nationally recognised through the Australian Qualifications Framework and highly valued by the industry, both here and internationally. Multimedia teaching methods like podcasts and social media now play a critical role in the learning process but you don’t need top-of-the-line hardware to access distance study.
Any modern computer with internet access will be all you need.
The teachers want their students to gain the skills and qualifications they need to achieve their goals and there’s a lot that OTEN can do to make sure you have your best chances of success. This may mean connecting you with TAFE counsellors or other specialised support staff, such as Disability Consultants.
Benefits of Disability Consultants
Disability Consultants support students living with disability, whether it’s visual or hearing impairment, intellectual or learning issues, neurological disorders, acquired brain injuries, physical or spinal injuries, adaptive technology, chronic illnesses, or mental health issues. They can assist from day one with enrolment and course advice, learning materials, provide individual assistance with your course and strategies for time management.
With the right support and game plan you can achieve the Certificate or Diploma you want.
You may even be eligible for an exemption from OTEN fees if you are receiving the Disability Support Pension. This usually means you can do one free course each year and other concessions may also be available.
Of course you have the choice not to disclose your disability however if OTEN are made aware of your needs, they can provide invaluable support with your studies. You can rest assured your personal information will be kept confidential.
