On 13 July 2022, Flourish Australia's team and supporters gathered at Government House, Sydney to see Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales, our Vice Regal Patron, launch the new Flourish Foundation Australia.
The Flourish Foundation Australia is the next exciting stage of Flourish Australia’s journey.
For the 800,000 Australians living with complex mental health, support which walks alongside them – wherever they are on their recovery journey – is key to supporting them to live a contributing life and achieving their hopes and dreams. The Flourish Foundation elevates the conversation about this important work and seeks to develop innovative, evidence-based solutions, connecting people with the support they need, when they need it.
Professor Elizabeth More AM, Chair of the new Foundation, reflected on the day that while awareness of mental health has come a long way from the days of institutionalisation, stigma remains for many living with complex mental health, which fuels loneliness and isolation. By working together, we can address these issues, and bring complex mental health out of the shadows.
The Foundation will engage with the community to raise greater awareness of complex mental health issues and to promote recovery-focused approaches to support. The Foundation has identified three priority projects:
- Supporting mothers with mental health issues and their children
- Addressing the physical health of people with complex mental health issues, reducing early mortality
- Supporting the development of First Nations community self-governed and delivered social and emotional wellbeing programs, on country
We invite you to join us on this journey, and encourage your support of the Foundation so we can support people to live the life they hope for.
