Flourish Australia welcomes the Hon Emma McBride MP, Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention’s announcement today that the National Mental Health Consumer Alliance and Mental Health Carers Australia have been funded to fulfil the roles the new National Peak Organisations for mental health consumers and mental health carers respectively.
Flourish Australia values the partnership it has with consumer and carer peaks in the many States and Territories in which it works. We know the importance these partnerships in ensuring our services are evidence based and person-led. The new National Peak Organisations will ensure the Australian Government receives important advice to help shape policy and co-design impactful programs of support.
We congratulate the consumer and carer advocates for achieving this great outcome, after decades of effort. This includes Flourish Australia’s General Managers, Inclusion, and well known lived experience leaders, Janet Meagher AM and Fay Jackson.
This day has been a long time coming. It is a great day to recognise and celebrate the important role consumers and carers play in ensuring mental health services are appropriate, effective and safe places for everyone needing support. We now have funded organisations that can do so Nationally. We look forward to working with them.
